Tinnitus with cpap

Hi,
I’ve been a cpap user for 5+ years which has transformed my sleep patterns, positively.
For the last 6 months I’ve found my ears are producing much more wax and I’ve developed tinnitus (not extreme) but noticeable. I’m convinced this is a side affect from the machine although I’ve had not specialist confirmation. My symptoms are similar to those of high blood pressure, ringing in the ears, slight dizziness, clumsiness…. I’ve had my blood pressure checked out with no issues reported.
Have any other cpap users experienced this?

  1. Hi, Paul,

Sorry you're going through this. Tinnitus for any period of time is obnoxious.

It turns out there are some noted connections not with cpap use specifically, but with sleep apnea itself. Check out this article that explains more:

I'm not a doctor so I can't give medical advice for your own safety. But the increased wax may suggest that there are other possibilities. At the very least, your doctor should be able to help with wax removal, which will likely help you feel more comfortable generally. (And try to avoid sticking anything in your ear, which can make the situation worse.)

I hope that gives you some new things to consider. It can't hurt to consult an ear, nose and throat specialist if you haven't already.

Keep us posted, okay? Hoping you get to the root of whatever is going on.
