Difficulty inhaling

Just started APAP (resmed Airsense 11 & Airfit N20). I know the machine is blowing air because it is gushing out the exhalation holes continuously but I never feel any air pressure in the mask itself. Feels like I have to vigorously suck air into my nose rather than making it easier to breath. All I can find are articles on difficulty exhaling but not inhaling. I don’t feel claustrophobic or really uncomfortable in the mask but it is harder to inhale wearing it. Is this normal?
Thanks

  1. It’s an APAP so it auto adjusts to my breathing (or not breathing). The ramp up feature is off also. Seems to be working correctly. The overnight reading seems to show it is helping so maybe I’m just used to taking shallow breaths and not sensitive to the airflow. I’ll keep on trying.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

    1. If it continues to be uncomfortable for you, please do call the medical supply store and ask for help. Your issues might also involve the mask. It might be the wrong size or maybe it's not sealing well. Most people have to try a few different masks before they find one that works well for them. I hope you either grow comfortable with it over time or find an easy solution. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Hi . Some therapists like to start users off on really low settings until they are used to it and then build up. Could that be what is going on? For most people, the lower pressure makes for an easier transition, but others are bothered by it. I would give the medical supply store a call and ask about your pressure settings. I hope that helps. Let me know what you learn, if you don't mind. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
