Two pairs of hands exchange a gift

Gift Ideas for CPAP Users

How many t-shirts, sweaters, or socks can one person reasonably use? When I think back to past holidays, I recall receiving more gifts of t-shirts and sweatshirts than I care to remember.

If you're someone who is buying a gift for someone who has sleep apnea this holiday season, I put together a list of a few thoughtful ideas.

A nightstand that can accommodate their CPAP

In an upcoming article titled "Setting Up Your CPAP In Different Situations," I will touch on my nightstand. A nightstand is a larger purchase, so this might be a gift best suited for a significant other.

I am someone who doesn't like clutter. When I first started using CPAP, I would disconnect my tube and mask from the machine and hide them in my dresser drawer. The nightstand I currently have has a large drawer where my CPAP can be easily hidden during the day just by closing the drawer. I even drilled a small hole in the back of the nightstand so I could feed the power cord through, and it keeps everything out of sight.

Weighted blankets to reduce movement during sleep

One common complaint I hear from fellow CPAP users is their masks fall off during the night because they are rolling around in their sleep.

A weighted blanket can be the answer to this problem. They come in all different weights and sizes. If their partner doesn't want to be weighted down at night, a smaller size would suffice. Some even have cooling technology. This makes the blanket useful in all seasons.

Mask liners to prevent skin irritation

Another common complaint is skin irritation. This is not something I've dealt with. However, if this is an issue for your CPAP user, they might like mask liners for their CPAP.

Obviously, you'll need to know what type of mask they use. I did a Google search and found lots of websites that carry these. There are washable and disposable options. This is also a relatively cheap gift option for those who are on a budget.

CPAP travel bag

If your CPAP user is a traveler, a new small travel bag for their CPAP might be a nice gift idea. My CPAP came with a travel bag; however, I can't put anything else in there.

One of the perks of traveling with your CPAP is that airlines can't charge you for medical equipment. The bag I purchased is slightly bigger than my CPAP. I use the extra space to pack my underwear, socks, and some personal hygiene items. This saves me space inside my suitcase for extra clothes.

Friendship is the best gift you can give

I hope someone finds these ideas useful. I've always been someone who loves giving practical gifts.

Always remember that the best gift is our friendship. When anyone is dealing with a health issue, it's always nice to have someone to talk to. Pick up the phone during this holiday season and check in with an old friend or loved one. It'll fill your heart as well as theirs.

What are some good gifts that you received? I always enjoy getting your feedback.
