Depression with Sleep Apnea

Is is normal to feel depressed with sleep apnea? I've noticed lately that some mornings when I wake up I'm in a funk that I can't shake out of.

  1. Hi, sleep apnea also affects mental health, and those people with sleep apnea have a higher risk of depression and anxiety. Persons with sleep apnea lack motivation and struggle to complete their daily activities. Sleep apnea disrupts learning and attention, which increases the chance of depression.

    1. I know that there is a strong correlation between sleep and mental health. I know personally I struggle with depression and when my sleep is really bad it greatly effects how I feel overall. My new doctor has had me journal how I'm feeling and when we meet in person we go over that compared to the reports from my machine and have noticed a pattern that on days when I have the most leaks my mood has been down as well. If there is anything we can help with in regards to your sleep apnea please let us know.

        1. Hello , welcome to our community. 🙂 — I will post a link to an article from Tamara, where she talks about the connection between sleep apnea and mental health. From my own experience, improving the quality of my sleep has helped strengthen my depression significantly. (sleepapnea.sleep-disorders.net/living/mental-health) Warmly, — Matt G.
