Daytime Fatigue

Do you experience daytime fatigue despite treatment for sleep apnea? How do you manage fatigue throughout the day? Any tips to share?

  1. I get very sleepy after eating so I try to be more active, cleaning or doing light exercise. If that doesn't work then a short nap in the afternoon.

    1. HI! My APAP treatment is helping my daytime fatigue, however, I am someone who is allergic to the world and for whom the MAIN allergic reaction is fatigue. It took time for me to figure this out, and now Claritin helps beat that fatigue.

      Good luck!

      1. My husband swears by his Claritin as well come allergy season. Warmly, Lisa *Team Member

    2. Hi
That's wonderful that the meds worked to help you sleep and stay awake.
If your body is telling you it's time for another test, then do. I hope it goes well for you and that you keep us posted.
      May you sleep well!

      1. Hi Kristin, I can fall asleep sitting here typing, sitting in the living room, even standing and cooking.
My pulmonologist put me on Modafinil for day time sleepiness. I have taken a night time sleep aid for a few years, without it, I don't sleep. My doctors have each gone through my medications to see if there is anything that could be affecting my sleep, my wakefulness, my other medications or other health issues.
The Modafinil does help to keep me awake, but there isn't the feel refreshed feeling that I hope would come. It was strange how this, which happened before my c-pap, was happening some years later. It has just been in this past year.
I wish that I would have documented the dates. This is something that could be important for many health issues. Sleep and wakefulness can be concerns, so do discuss these with your doctor, as they can indicate a concern. Likely a sleep study will be needed, and possibly a C-Pap.
Be sure to change the filter in your c-pap frequently. What you breathe in does make a difference. Changing your furnace filter regularly is so important as well.
I hope that you have a restful sleep tonight and a wakeful day tomorrow.

        1. That's wonderful that you could stop taking it. If I know it's going to be a sick day when I'm down, I don't take the modafinil, but I find I can sleep if I need it.
I'm glad that I didn't know that I had sleep apnea when I worked. Our shifts were 24 hours for #1 service 2-3 days , #2 then 3-4 days at another service. For #1 I took calls when needed. Those on call stayed on-site. I was also taking classes.
Yet, when I stop and think, it would have been better to have the C-Pap. I'm sure that I would have gone to sleep quicker, woke more refreshed and quicker to dress and get my boots on! This was for ambulance. I really didn't have any problems getting up, once that adrenaline kicked in.
I loved that job and wish I could have stayed on. 😀

        2. oh, the adrenaline is a natural booster, for sure!

I remember when I was pregnant and had chronic stuffy nose and mentioned this to my midwife and she said, don't worry, during labor, you'll have so much adrenaline flowing it'll remove any congestion you might have. She was right!

I'm glad I had the modafinil option, and could definitely sleep if I didn't take it. But I'm more glad that I don't have to take it now, though I have a small amount tucked away in case I need to make a long road trip and have concerns about drowsy driving.
