Chesty coughs

Hi. Has anyone got a chesty cough since using a cpap with built-in humidifier. I've had 3 chest infections since February, when my machine was updated. Thankyou .

  1. Hi . It has been a few months since you posted. I thought I would check in and see whether you are still having infections. Was your doctor any help in resolving the issue? Warmest of wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Welcome to our community, 🙂

I'm sorry to hear about the news. If you haven't already, it might be helpful to speak with your primary physician and sleep specialist. Please keep us updated on your progress and take care. Best wishes, - Matt G. (from the sleepapnea.sleep-disorders.net team).

      1. Hi . You must be awfully frustrated. Humidifiers of any kind can cause infections if they are not cleaned properly or regularly. Do you think this new machine might have a structure that makes it more difficult to clean? Could there be nooks and crannies that are harboring bacteria? It might be worthwhile to research the machine and see whether others have had similar complaints. If so, maybe you can request a prescription for a different brand. Here is an article about cleaning CPAP machines with links to several other articles that might hep you figure out new and more effective ways to clean it: https://sleepapnea.sleep-disorders.net/living/cpap-cleaning-tips. Another possibility is that you have an infection that is resistant to the antibiotics you take for it. Antibiotics might knock the infection down, but not all the way, resulting in a regrowth of the bacteria. Is that a possibility your doctor has considered? I hope this helps and that you are able to get rid of that cough. Keep us posted if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
