Vertigo

I am experiencing vertigo throughout the day and wonder if it can be CPAP related. When I wake up I have very puffy eyes, headaches, feel spacey, and inside my ears are wet. I am suspicious that the CPAP machine is causing sinus and inner ear problems that are contributing to vertigo. I have turned down the pressure setting on the machine which has helped a little, but has not totally resolved the problem. I did sleep for two nights without using the machine and felt better, but I sleep better when using the machine. I'm thinking of consulting an ENT doctor.

  1. UPDATE to the vertigo problem that I thought might be related to the CPAP machine. I saw an ENT Dr. who also has sleep apnea, so he is quite knowledgeable in the subject. He advised turning down the pressure on the machine, but has diagnosed me with Meniere's Disease which is an imbalnce of fluids in the inner ear. Diruetics are helping quite a bit. Thanks for all the responses.

    1. Thank you, I am feeling much better and I am so glad to know that the CPAP machine is not causing problems, I would hate to give it up.

    2. so glad you are getting some answers!!!!! Best wishes, Tamara (community advocate)

  2. With BPPV (Vertigo), people who also have seasonal nasal allergies, often notice they have BPPV episodes during allergy season. Treating the allergies may be effective. Also if you have BPPV and sleep in one position, you may find that the crystals in your ear may move causing the vertigo. ENT visit can determine if you have it.

    1. My sleep doctor says that none of the symptoms that I am experiencing are related to the CPAP machine. I am going to explore more.

      1. Thanks for asking. Still waiting to see the ENT Dr. There are only 2 in my area and there is a wait. Meanwhile taking Bonine for motion sickness is helping with the vertigo.

      2. I'm so sorry you're dealing with the vertigo. I get it from a different condition, and it can make life extremely difficult! I hope you get relief very soon! Best wishes, Tamara (community advocate)

    2. Yes, you should consult an ENT doctor or your regular doctor. Vertigo is no fun and can be dangerous to yourself when you fall. Please let us know how you are doing and what you find out.
