New Diagnosis

Hi there,

I was recently diagnosis with OSA and it was not the news I wanted to hear. I received my ResMed Airsense 11 APAP just 3 days ago and for 2 nights I only been able to get 2.5 hours of sleep with it on. I know I'm overthinking this but it's frustrating!! I'm currently working overnight due to staffing issues, sure exactly which nasal pillow size to use because when I did the test run, the app said all 3 are a good seal and an idea fit. I had an event last night and I woke up catching my breathe because the pressure was a bit too much. One of my bff is an ER nurse so I vented and crying to her, after her shift yesterday morning. She talked to me as if I was one of her patients LOL but she did give me some relieve as to what's suppose to happen and I figure it's a normal function but I have questions and concerns. I know it's only day two of using it but it's slightly stressing me out especially if I can't be in compliance of ensure I have 6 hours of sleep with it. I swear I have a new gray hair from this, lol.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! I am glad you found us. Eventually, you will be glad you got the diagnosis because you will know know what it feels like to experience high-quality sleep, but the adjustment period can be incredibly overwhelming and frustrating An app isn't going to be much help with fitting your mask properly. It's best to make an appointment with the store that sold you the equipment and have them help you in person. Here is an article about troubleshooting mask issues that might interest you: https://sleepapnea.sleep-disorders.net/living/cpap-mask-troubleshooting. It took my husband a couple of weeks to find a mask that worked for him, but he finally did it. He still has issues now and then, but they are minor. He loves his CPAP now and can't imagine being without it. I hope this helps. Keep us posted if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. So I have a update. I went ahead and took your and my PCP advice after my f/u visit. I went to the medical supply store that was in my area and meet the nicest person ever who helped but allow me figure out what I want in regards of the mask. I purchased a new mask that goes over my nose and the heating hose. I used it on the night of 8/24 and I woke up so refreshed, so energized ready to conquer the world. I went outside to run a few errands and I wasn't tired from "the fresh air" I received and didn't need a nap, although naps are wonderful. I can't recall having rest like that, like now I'm at work typing this and I still don't feel tired and this is usually the time I start to get a bit sleepy. My results on the app were in the 80's which is the highest I had so far. I'm actually looking for to going to sleep when I get home this morning and hoping to get a full 8 hours in.

      Thank you!!
