Getting used to wearing the CPAP

I don't think after 6 years I will ever get used to using it. It is not the most comfortable thing in the world.

  1. I have had mine for like 3 to 4 years. I still have nights where I will put it on and have to gasp for air as soon as it goes on and then after a few minutes then my breathing calms down.

  2. Thank You, I hope I can do some of this stuff on my own. Life can be very hard at times. Blessings-I keep in mind that all of this here is temporary, it is not eternal. This keeps me going. Each new day brings something new with it. Thank You again Lori for your support. IT means a lot to me.

  3. I can wear it when I am awake but fall asleep I take off not noing

    1. I never know that I take it off or how long I have it off until I wake up god only knows how long later.

    2. That must make the issue even harder to address. I have two different EPAPs - one with a headstrap and one that simply inserts into my nose. When I wear the one without the headstrap, I often wake up in the morning with the EPAP clenched in my hand. No memory of ever doing it either. - Lori (Team Member)

  4. I don't know. I do it because I am suppose to do it. I hope it is helping. I know my boyfriend doesn't stay over night anymore for it brothers him. He can't sleep. I only keep it on 4 to 6 hours. When I wake up I take it off.

    1. That is a common problem for many people. It takes time to get use to the device and continue to wear it all night long. We have a couple of articles on dating and using the CPAP I will share one with you https://sleepapnea.sleep-disorders.net/living/dating. I also wanted to share with you this article on why you need to use your PAP therapy https://sleepapnea.sleep-disorders.net/clinical/risks-untreated-osa It can cause serious health issues. I am so proud of you for sticking with it and doing the therapy because you know you need to. I hope it helps to know why you need to and maybe your boyfriend will be more understanding if he knows how important it is as well. It can take our significant others a bit to get use to the device as well. Warmly, Lisa (SleepApnea.Sleep-Disorders.net/stories (story page) Team Member and Advocate)
