CPAP Is Uncomfortable

My story begins 2010 a year after my husband and I got married. My husband was getting up at all hours of the night cause I kept waking him up with my snoring so I decided to get a sleep test and my doctor confirmed that I have sleep apnea. He prescribed the CPAP machine and I hate it because it is so uncomfortable to sleep. I still felt like I wasn’t getting enough sleep with it so I slept without it. Out of respect for my husband, I use it. I decided to sleep on my recliner chair and to sleep with the fan facing me and the air conditioning on and I don’t snore as loud.

  1. hello
Are you and your husband sleeping better since you are sleeping in the recliner? With your head elevated in the recliner, that may help your breathing.
I understand the difficulty in sleep, that happens to me periodically, when I need to get a new cushion for my C-Pap mask. It did take me some time to get used to it too.
For your overall health, it's great that you are using the C-Pap. Hopefully you are feeling the benefits of the C-Pap, if not, I recommend that you see your sleep doctor or the doctor who prescribed your C-Pap.
Let us know what you find out and how you are doing.

    1. Hi Bernice1, I'm glad you're still using it because it makes a big difference--for both of you. There is this problem for the bed partners of snorers, they have significant sleep deprivation because of the snoring. I can say this as a person who snored loudly until I started using CPAP, and as a sleep technologist who has recorded some really eardrum-busting snoring sounds in the lab. If you still struggle with the comfort factor with your CPAP, I would recommend you talk to your sleep specialist. It may be as simple as adjusting the air pressure or switching masks or changing your humidifier settings. Good luck to you! 💙 Tamara, SleepApnea.Sleep-Disorders.net community advocate
