My Experience With the New ResMed AirSense 11 Auto CPAP
I was hoping to have my new CPAP machine within a few weeks, but when I went to pick it up, the machine I'd been sent was actually a downgrade to an AirSense 10. This older model worked using a Sim Card to Cloud, and it doesn’t have myAir app.
Finally, after another wait, I was so happy to get my much-anticipated correct machine, the AirSense 11 Auto. I was hoping that this would really make a difference in my treatment.
Unboxing and setup of the AirSense 11
The 11 model looks similar to my Airsense 10, just a little slimmer. The tank for the humidifier is a little smaller and it has a touch screen on the front of it. I swapped out my old machine for the new one and it was fairly easy.
I don’t know what it is about the way the water chambers are set up with these CPAPs, but I used to spill water all the time filling up my old model. Unfortunately, it didn’t get much better with the new one. In fact, with the smaller tank, it’s even harder to fill up without getting water everywhere.
The new machine required me to go into the myAir app and update the machine. Once I changed to the new machine in the app, it prompted me to enter a 4-digit code that appeared on the touch screen. Once that's done, the machine updates via Bluetooth, and shortly after I wake up I can see the stats for that night without a delay. With my previous model, it would take 1 to 2 hours after I got up before I could see my stats for the previous night.
Features and benefits of the ResMed AirSense 11
The new machine has a lot of benefits. The first thing I noticed is that it is so much quieter than my other machine. My husband couldn’t even tell that the machine was on once I put my mask on.
The new machine has eliminated the need for several things I used to do with my prior machine.
1. Auto ramp
The top 3 things I no longer need to experience with my new machine include the auto ramp. I used to have to turn my machine on and off again because the ramp time was only 45 minutes and I would still be awake. However, if you like the timed ramp feature it’s still available. They just added an auto ramp option with the AirSense 11. It makes it so much easier to be able to put the mask on and not have to touch anything.
2. Access to myAir app data
I don’t have to wait until the morning to see my data on the myAir app. I like that they added a My Sleep View screen, t00.
3. Breathing has improved
The final thing is I no longer wake up feeling like the machine is cutting off my air and I’m breathing against it while it forces air down. The auto adjustment has been amazing and is intuitive. The first night I had zero events per hour and the second night I had .02 incidents per hour, which is so much better than my numbers with the old machine.
My overall verdict on the ResMed AirSense 11
Overall I’m really happy with the new machine. It has a lot of nice features that make it much easier to use than my previous machine. At the time of this writing, I've been using it for about 3 weeks and I’m interested to see if it makes a difference in how I feel.
The numbers on the myAir app look much better, but so far I’m still feeling tired. While I try to avoid naps, it’s still really hard to stay up during the day.
I no longer feel like I’m breathing against the machine. It's so much more intuitive than AirSense 10 and when I breathe out, it doesn’t feel like I’m choking or my air is cut off.
I have had to make some changes to the auto start. I have to disconnect the connector at the top of my head to put my mask on. If the headgear is connected as soon as you pick it up the air will start blowing.
The machine is so quiet, which is a great feature, and I look forward to updating you as I continue using the new machine.
Do you use the myAir App?
