The Pros and Cons of Using the Contour CPAPMax Pillow

I usually sleep with a 12-inch ramp wedge pillow for my acid reflux but my pillow was getting old so I started searching for a new one. It felt like Amazon knew a CPAP pillow is something I needed to have. While scrolling through, a sponsored post came up and the title alone made me purchase it. When I saw: "Contour CPAPMax 2-in-1 Cooling Plush CPAP Comfort Pillow - Reduce Air Leaks, Hose Tangles, Mask Discomfort & Adjust Thickness, for Side, Stomach, Back Sleepers, All Masks - Works 1st Night", I felt like this pillow would be perfect.

What does the Contour CPAPMax pillow look like?

It has 2 notches on the side for side sleepers and it has a tab at the top to keep your CPAP tubing in place. Well, when going with a pillow over 6 inches lower than what I normally sleep on, it was an adjustment. This is my review of the Contour CPAPMax pillow. See below for a picture of the pillow.

Cons: what I did not like about the pillow

I wanted to love this pillow, but I can honestly say it definitely was not something I was in love with the first night. I had such high hopes because the description of the pillow boasts fewer leaks, better sleep, and comfort from the first night.

I’ll start out with the cons. Coming from such a steep incline that I sleep with normally, it felt super low. Another con – as a wild sleeper, because of the size of the pillow, the first 2 nights I ended up waking up not on the pillow. The first night was the worst with it being so low it put a lot of pressure on my shoulder and the strap for the CPAP tubing was annoying once I was no longer on the pillow. It was like it drug behind me as I was moving.

Pros: what I like about the pillow

If you are currently sleeping with 1 standard pillow, then this is perfect because you can adjust it to the perfect height. It starts out at 5.5 inches but has inserts so you can adjust it to the perfect height. The pillow is reversible; one side is a harder foam and then the other side is a soft pillow.

Wearing the mask exacerbates my night sweats so it’s nice that the foam side of the pillow is cooling while the other pillow side is softer. The cutout in the side allows for side sleepers to turn over and not put pressure on the mask for full face wearers.

Final thoughts about this CPAP pillow

In conclusion, this pillow is cool, has a lot of interesting features, and is customizable to your comfort level. You can choose the firm or softer side of the pillow. You can adjust the height and keep the tubing stable with a place at the top to hook it to the pillow.

If you toss, turn, and flip in your sleep, this might not be the best pillow for you. However, for back sleepers and side sleepers, it might be a better option. I am still using the pillow but I put it on top of a square foam pillow just to have the height that I’m used to but it’s nice to turn over and not put pressure on the mask because of the cutout of the pillow.
