My New CPAP DreamStation: A Review

My new continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine finally arrived. This is a replacement for my old one that was on the recall list. It was a long wait and a lot of headaches to get this far.

So… even though it is a DreamStation just like my old one, it's totally different! Here are some of the differences between my old CPAP and my new CPAP DreamStation for sleep apnea.

New CPAP machine differences

Color, size, and sound

To begin with, my old DreamStation was white. This new one is black. Along with that, this new one is half the size of the old one. But it is much quieter when it runs. Which is funny 'cause the old one wasn't very loud.

Buttons

Also, there's only 1 button to push on this new machine. The old machine had a button to push to turn it on and a knob to turn to get to different parts of the machine. I could also turn on and off the ramp on the old machine where I can't on the new one.

Design issues

My new CPAP is not even close to the same machine that I purchased! To me, it is just a bad design of this new DreamStation CPAP machine that is replacing the one that I knew what it looked like when I purchased it!

Water reservoir

Then there's the water reservoir on the new machine. I really don't like it! You may be asking, "Why?"

Well, first off, it slides onto the back of the machine. It’s my opinion but… some pretty flimsy plastic that could break easily if I'm not very careful when I put that reservoir back on to its base. Not even to mention the fact that once you slide that reservoir off the base, it feels way too fragile. The flimsy plastic tabs need to be lifted up to even get to the reservoir. (It's like a cheap plastic container for food). This is definitely not something I would have purchased on my own even for a CPAP machine!

The new water reservoir is not at all like the old one. Before, I just push the button and could lift the reservoir right from the top of the machine.

The biggest difference: SD card!

In my old machine, the SD card was on the side of the machine as were the air filters. Extremely easy to get to when needed.

So, you probably guessed that it's not that way with the new machine. With this new machine, I actually have to take off the water reserve tank. Then the SD card and the air filters both slide in at the back of the machine behind the water tank. What?

Air filters

Not only that they slide in behind the water tank but the air filters are totally different from the DreamStation that I had before. With that being said… I have a whole lot of air filter replacements for my old machine that I can't now use in my new machine. So now, I have to buy more air filters for the new machine when I already spent the money on the ones for the old machine!

My CPAP DreamSachine review

I am feeling very dissatisfied with the replacement from the CPAP recall!

So, I was under the impression when this recall started that the reason we had to return the old one was that it could be reworked. Then, the refurbished CPAP would be sent to somebody who had the exact same machine who is also on the recall list. Yep, I was surprised!
