Affording Surgery
Having sleep apnea is such a bother. Fortunately, some people are eligible for surgery. But you know what else is a bother? Medical bills. But for some people, it’s worth the cost. I know for me personally, I had a very hard time wearing my CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine. So my grandmother and I looked into surgery. But what if you don’t have insurance or are having a hard time affording the cost?
Tips for affording surgery
Putting money aside
This is a no-brainer but putting a little bit aside every month adds up quickly! Maybe you can make coffee at home instead of buying a $5 drink at Starbucks every morning. That’s already $100 if you bought 1 coffee 5 days a week every week! Here are some ways I’ve found helpful for penny-pinching.
Phone apps
Phone apps are super handy. Did you know you can earn gift cards for doing certain things? Apps like Smore, Amazon shopper panel, and Fetch rewards all help you earn points that go towards gift cards you can earn in real life!
Smore lets you play games, download other apps, or simply opening your lock screen once a day gets you 10 points. Amazon shopper panel and Fetch just ask you to upload any receipts you have for points. You can get an Amazon gift card or other choices on fetch.
I’ve personally used all of these multiple times and can vouch for all of them. They help me get small groceries here and there but it really adds up!
Donating plasma
Not only can you make some extra income but this is a great way to give back to your community! Bio Life is 1 of the companies near me and has a lot of promotions that go on throughout each month.
Finding the clearance racks
A lot of grocery stores have clearance racks. I usually find them near the bakery or produce sections. Kroger for example has a cart near the bakery with discounted loaves of bread, cakes, cookies, and other goods. Sometimes if you shop in the evening you can get discounts on meats that haven’t sold during the day. You can also ask for discounts at the deli if there are any cuts that are going to expire soon. You can also shop second hand of course, you never know what you might find!
Deliver on your schedule
Companies like Door Dash and Uber are super convenient for people who need extra cash but have a busy schedule. The way it works is when you sign up, you decide what time you’d like to go online and how long you’d like to work. So there’s no pressure and you can earn some extra income. This is also wonderful for people who get tired easily from their sleep apnea. They can always take a break whenever they need to!
Start a go fund me
I get it, it can be embarrassing asking for money. But you’d be surprised by how many people genuinely want to help others in need. There’s no shame in it. It’s ok to ask for help!
